An AOB ( Acquired Benefits ) bill that also mandates calibration for vehicles with ADAS has been signed by the governor of Iowa. &nbsp,

A motor vehicle glass repair shop that is paid for the request of insurance claims may be prohibited from offering any form of a rebate, product, gift card, cash, coupon, fee, prize, bonus, payment, incentive, inducement, or any other thing of value to any secured person, producer, or other person in exchange for directing or making an offer under an insurance policy for repair or replacement of glass. &nbsp,

The act states that an insured person who files a first-party declare for replacing or fixing broken motor automobile glass under a motor vehicle insurance policy is not required to visit a specific motor vehicle glass repair shop to get paid claims or get additional benefits under the policy. &nbsp,

Additionally, it may forbid an employer from running a network of glass repair facilities for automobiles. &nbsp,

After a car repair or replacement, crystal repair shops would need to be notified to the insured people whether their car has ADAS and whether validation or recalibration is necessary. &nbsp,

According to the act, the store would need to tell the insured if it intends to evaluate the windshield to OEM specs. If the measurement is successful, the store would need to give notice if it is carried out. &nbsp,

The store would need to request the covered person to take the car to a manufacturer’s certified dealership or qualified specialist, the bill states. If the shop cannot calibrate the vehicle properly or a calibration is ineffective, the shop would need to do so. &nbsp,

A store that violates the rules would be held guilty of making unfair trade decisions and be punished. &nbsp,

A was approved by the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL ) in February. In March, the Independent Glass Association ( IGA ) published a formal response to the Model Act. &nbsp,

In Kentucky, legislation was passed last year to outlaw AOB in the auto glass sector. It complied with the legislation enacted in Florida in 2023.
